Website Creation Tools and Software
Choosing which website creation tools to use may seem like a overwhelming
task because there are so many options. To make it easier, we will discuss
the main types of web design tools.
There are basically three different types of web page editors:
- HTML
- WYSIWYG
software (what you see is what you get)
- Online website builders
HTML Website Creation Tools
HTML (hyper text markup language) editors are programs such as
Notepad, which comes with Windows. There are also more advanced editors such as
Note Tab and HomeSite.
With a text editor, you will need to know how to use HTML
to code your own site. If you are just starting out, I wouldn't suggest using a
text editor to build your website. You can spend countless hours learning how to
code everything so that it displays correctly on the internet. After you get
everything functioning correctly, you will then have to use FTP (file transfer
protocol) software to upload your files onto your website server.
WYSIWYG Website Creation Tools
WYSIWYG stands for "What you see is what you get". WYSIWYG editors allow you to type your content into pre-made
templates, and the program inserts the html for you.
Unfortunately, these
programs sometimes insert their own markup code, so you need to find out if your
website host offers the proper extensions to support your files (for example,
ask if they offer Frontpage extensions).
Generally, these programs are easy to
use and can help you get your site designed and built very quickly. You will
still need ftp software to upload the individual pages of your website onto your
website server. Some of the more popular WYSIWYG programs are Frontpage, GoLive,
and Dreamweaver.
Online Website Creation Tools
Online website builders are the perfect choice for
people who don't know how to build a web page and don't have any programming
skills. You don't have to buy any software, learn HTML, or FTP your files to use
them either.
Designing your website online is probably the easiest way to create
your website. All you need to do is add content to each individual page. If you
are considering using an online website builder, I would suggest checking
out Site Build It.
When choosing a website page editor, be sure to compare features and consider how much time you want to invest in learning a new program. Once you choose your website creation tool, you can then move on to building your website pages.
